Alice, our little King Charles spaniel, has become fascinated by the wood burning stove. She sits in front of it gazing at the flames for ages and has started to bark at her reflection in the mirror too. Is this a sudden realisation of self or is she still very, very silly with all her brain power directed to finding more food.
Surprisingly we are bathed in sunshine this afternoon after some days of bathing in heavy rain. There is so much water everywhere except in our taps. Our neighbour, the goat cheese man, has a leak somewhere in a field on the hill and we are on a sub meter to his supply. The water board have threatened him with prosecution which seems a bit rich as he could hardly get a digger up there when we were under feet of snow. The digger is up there today and they have found the pipe and now have to dig along its length to try and find the break. Let’s hope it doesn’t take too long or we will all be very smelly not to mention dehydrated.
It is doom and gloom in the alpaca world but we are soldering on with the Futurity. I really want to hear Ahmed Tibary’s lectures as I’ve been trying to get him to the UK for years and have finally succeeded. However trying things are I am always cheered up by going for a walk through the fields and watching our alpacas. They are a lot of fun and all individuals. My oldest girl Mika is eighteen this year, she is not exactly pretty, but very healthy and pregnant again. Mika is the sort of animal you would have to run on concrete to get her to lose any weight and her cria are always about 12 kilos and come out running.
