My old black girl Hecuba finally popped a female cria today. Chas had to pull it out and the little girl is a bit slow getting going, probably a bit traumatised. We stood her up just now and shoved her under her mother and she did suckle a little. It is lovely and sunny now but we have had some sharp frosts so she’ll be in the barn tonight. I was hoping the cria would be black but our fawn male Tulaco Centurion has given us a brown. One should not grumble as the cria is female and alive and a good size.

I missed all this as I was at the hairdresser in Exeter getting rid of an inch of grey, yuck. I am a startling red again, hurrah. I have booked tickets for a couple of operas at Glyndebourne in August and rang Colin Bell to see if we could stay with them in Lewes. Our conversation was short as typically he was in the middle of a lesson in Mandarin Chinese. Eldest son Thomas fell about when I told him because Colin is the only person we can imagine doing such a thing. And Colin and Linda spend two weeks every summer at a karate camp in Cornwall. Strange tastes eh?
