Our junior herdsires are all working now albeit with some trepidation. The fawn Adonis has stood around like a muppet for three sessions with a female sat at his feet and another male working in the next pen. Clearly he hadn’t a clue what to do and ate hay instead. Finally yesterday we heard a little orgle and he had a go! Paris has now done three matings twenty minutes long – good. And Kazzan jumped on our stooge female the first time we tried him. Unfortunately the females we have waiting for him all refused to sit and kicked and spat instead. They are certainly not pregnant as the scanner never lies so hopefully a dose of estrumate will stop and start up their cycles so that they behave properly in a few days.

Meanwhile my camelia is flowering, there are primroses everywhere and the little chicks are very skittish fluttering around the barn and even venturing outside. An adult cock and a hen decided to take over the digger cab. Chas was horrified and hurled them out shutting the cab door firmly behind them. The three young cockbirds are a nightmare chasing the hens and then indulging in mass rape. They will have to go to the great casserole in the sky.
