Last weekend we went through all the females scanning and spitting off. The very first girl who came in for scanning stood there perfectly calmly and then spat all over my brand new polo neck sweater. So disgusting, however she clearly was pregnant. We have finished breeding now a month earlier than last year when it was October 30. The plan is to pull back another month next year so we finish at the end of August. It will mean that we hold at least a dozen, maybe 15 girls over until the spring rather than mate them now. It is always difficult to do particularly if some of the girls are really good ones you don’t want to lose a year of their breeding life. But we have stayed firm on this. It will make life a lot simpler if we don’t have any newborns about when the weather is bad and then you have to bring them in and worry!
I have a rabbit in a casserole in the oven, the first one I have shot for ages. Chas was very impressed as he was dispatched with one shot from the airgun.
