I was just about to leave for a diabetic check up at the hospital in Exeter when I glanced out through the pouring rain into the birthing field and saw a little white head and two legs sticking out of Diane. Diane’s an ancient Accoyo girl but still reasonably fit for her age. I shot out there with a towel, desperately trying to keep my clothes clean, picked up the cria, a girl, and attempted to persuade Diane to follow me in to the hay barn. Eventually she did. There was no way we could leave a newborn out in the weather we had yesterday, it was foul. Today they are both out as it is sunny although very windy and the cria is very lively. We have four more to go so I’m hoping they will oblige and drop heir cria before we disappear to London next week.
The calendars and diaries have arrived. Ann has done a very nice job, her photographs are gorgeous and there is a particularly lovely one of a suri in a corn field and even a brown alpaca sat in the sand dunes next to the sea. I have no idea how she got them to stay still and keep their ears up. The scenery in New Zealand is amazing. Let’s go!
