These are two of the pictures of our cria that Joshua took the other day. Aaah they are very pretty and growing on well too.
Two cria were born today, a boy and a girl. The boy must have been born very, very early in the morning or late last night as he was dry when we saw him at about 7.30. The boy is a very dark brown and is by EPC’s Streslecki male out of the pretty fawn girl I bought at the Futurity auction. The girl was a different matter altogether with its legs way back who knows where and just a head and neck hanging out. Chas was out with the stud males on mobiles – of course. I had a go and could feel one of the legs but concluded it was too difficult for me and called the vet. The cria was starting to look a bit blue by the time the vet hurtled into the yard but after a lot of heaving and pulling both legs and the cria emerged alive and well. It is a Jaquinto daughter and typically, even after such a traumatic birth, it was sitting up immediarely and soon after on its feet and suckling. The mum was given penecillin and oxytocin and seems none the worse for her ordeal. Chas announced this morning that we now have 25 mums left to birth, fifteen of those are in August, so hopefully no more tricky ones.
