Two more alpaca cria were born today, a very dark fawn or brown boy and a white girl. I have been watching the brown cria, that arrived about an hour ago, as it tries to feed through its mother’s back legs. Venus is the mother, one of the show team for the last two years, and she is looking calm if a little bemused. It is a mistake to watch cria trying to get their first milk as it is so frustrating as they go straight through and out the other side and are generally incompetent. The white one has cracked it now but she has had a couple more hours of experimentation.
