Alpaca cria number fifty one emerged yesterday, a strong Jaquinto daughter, up on its feet very fast but surprisingly dim about where the milk was. By the afternoon I was thinking it was plasma time but she finally went to the right end and suckled.

Today we’ve been doing the final cut on the television ads, putting the voice over on and finding the right music – what a nightmare that is with only 30 seconds to play with. Anyway all three are finished, John Dakin and I stayed sane and didn’t kill each other although we were pretty fed up with Elgar, Mozart and Bruch by the end of it.

Our mushrooms are still popping up everywhere and their flavour is so good compared to the commercial ones in the supermarket. We seem to be living on scrambled eggs and mushrooms at the moment as we get to the house so late that there isn’t time to cook anything serious before Chas zonks out on the sofa. While I was out on my mushroom expedition I saw the most amazing rainbow, it was so broad you could see every colour clearly and while I was admiring it a crowd of long tailed tits were moving along the hedge. This was just before two Dutch alpaca owners, new owners, turned up unexpectedly. They ended up at our neighbour’s house as the sat nav was an old one and sent them to the wrong end of our lane. We had no idea who these guys were but we had a cup of tea and a little walk in one of the nursery fields before persuading them to subscribe to Alpaca World magazine and buy a book!
