Aaaah, look here are the two latest cria, both girls too. The brown was born on Wednesday and is 10.9 kilos and the light fawn is about ten days old and now weighs 9.6 kilos. She was a bit of a titch but is putting on weight nicely now. There is one more pregnant femnale who is over eleven and a half months and then we have a gap until our ET drop in June when there are eight due on the same day. They won’t do it on the same day though, that would be far too easy for an alpaca.
It is very hot today. I’ve just walked the fields to make sure everyone is standing – they are not, all alpacas are lying around in the shade, very sensible, that’s what I should be doing. I saw the fox and her three cubs sunbathing. She gave a great alarm howl when she saw me. The cubs shot off but she just sat there watching. Our neighbours have lost two lambs to foxes so we are a bit wary of putting cria down in the bottom fields at the moment.
Jacquie –
Now I know who is having our female cria !
