Good heavens and all that, we had an excellent couple of days at the BAS National Show at Newark with all six of the animals we took getting ribbons. Dovecote Jaquinto, who we own a bit of, was Champion Adult Male which was a splendid result and our fawn Tulaco Centurion was Reserve Champion. Centurion won his fawn class, was Champion fawn and his fleece got a first so we were very pleased, big grins all round. The other two fawns, Francesca, a junior, and Dante, an intermediate, were second in their classes and best of all our progeny group from Distinction came third in a class of 11. We were made up.
We also had a very jolly evening out with Nick Harrington Smith, his godson, John Pott’s personal trainer and Paul and Theresa Cullen at the Lord Nelson, a spit away from the showground. The food was very good and the company hilarious.
We drove home through the filthiest weather imaginable, absolutely chucking it down and awful visibility with so much spray. Got home at half past six to find a newborn shivering in the barn. Our stockman had come back in the evening to feed the orphan and got the cria, a white female, in out of the awful weather. It is typical, we go away for the weekend and two cria are born. The other one was born on Saturday to a young blue eyed white female. I put a black over her in the hope of getting a grey. I don’t think so. The cria is white with brown ears, brown socks, brown nose and a brown tail. It looks very wacky and will make a lovely field pet. We would have been gutted if it had been a female but as a gelding it will attract lots of attention.
