We weaned another eleven cria this morning. Lots of them were way over 30 kilos even though they are not six months yet. They have joined the other weanlings in a close field so that they can be fed every day and we can keep an eye on them and bring them into the barn for the night if the weather is truly dreadful. They will no doubt spend a few days standing at the gate moaning but will soon get over it.
The mothers have gone off to a new field with the rest of the pregnant females who do not have cria at foot. One or two of those will probably moan but most mums don’t seem to care too much. We were going to do some second round bluetongue jabs on the little ones but all of them are still wet from yesterday’s downpours and we don’t like injecting damp animals as you can get water in with the vaccine – not what the vet ordered.
