We have finished the Winter edition of the magazine and all the files are up at the printers ready to be printed when they get back after the New Year. That’s a relief for me and Jeff. Then once Jeff gets back from his holidays we go seamlessly (we hope) into the Futurity catalogue and our stud brochure which I have to get on and write pronto.

The vet is coming this afternoon to do a veterinary health check on a young female who is leaving us for pastures new and to do a PCV on a maiden Alpaca Stud girl who has been anaemic for ages. She had quite a high worm burden 1500 which has taken a long time and three different wormers to finally get rid of. Whether they were the cause or whether there is something else underlying, none of us know. She had stopped putting on weight but when she went on the scales yesterday she was 0.8 of a kilo up and still seems perfectly cheerful.

We did a hands on inspection of the field of lactating mums and cria yesterday and found some nasty curly nails which have now been manicured nicely. Some of the animals’ nails do seem to grow a lot faster than others. They were all very calm and well behaved and let Chas clip away without any fuss. These girls are getting plenty of hard feed, a mixture of Carrs, sugar beet pellets and alfalfa pellets and they are eating a great deal of hay. Not surprising as there is little goodness in the grass at this time of year.
