We had a good meeting with the divine Dorret, a lady with serious ooomp, who is going to sell our hand knit yarns on her website. She came down from Preston for the day and luckily it was lovely weather as she wanted to see and photograph the alpacas.

Our hen has hatched three chicks that have now been transferred to a safer location with their extremely irritated mum. The other eight eggs did not hatch and have been consigned to the compost heap. Once the chicks are a bit bigger they will be released to hang out with the rest of the flock who spend their days wandering round the fields.

I have successfully survived the credit card madness of Clarks Village with Joshua who needed more clothes. Needed is probably an exaggeration, wanted is more likely. I tried to resist temptation but failed when faced with a pair of DKNY jeans with gold bits here and there that were a perfect fit. The search for the perfect handbag continued and I bought another one. This one is not so deep which should mean I can find things rather than scrabbling around in the bottom for hours.

Heidi and Jeff came over for the Alpaca World editorial meeting for the Summer issue this morning. I made four-nut chocolate brownies which helped us to come up with more brilliant ideas!! We took them on a trip down to the house to view developments. It is looking about a million times better now and the plastering is proceeding well. Only six weeks late and considerably over budget – bankruptcy looms…

We have done our entries for the BAS National Show although why we are going I really cannot fathom. It is in Newark, bloody miles away, the only good thing being that you pass at least one service station with M&S food so starvation is not necessarily a possibility. The building is pretty ghastly, rather dark with no air condituoning so if it is damp, the animals soak up the wet and their fleece goes floppy. We can’t take more than eight animals as our trailer is quite small so it is a long haul if you don’t win anything. Anyway Chas insists on going so it seems rather churlish to prefer to stay at home. I will have to search for a good hotel up there – if anyone knows of one, please communicate soonest.
