The three cria in the birth field, a dark fawn, light fawn and a black, are a real gang now, rushing about and annoying their mothers. The ring leader is the black boy who is always up to some mischief and gets the others to join in. They are a lot of fun to watch. Six chicks hatched yesterday in the incubator, none of the araucana or buff eggs were successful which is a disappointment. I’ll have to try again in a few weeks. Another hen is sitting in the barn, not meant to happen but I thought I’d leave her to get on with it, maybe she is hatching some blue eggs.
We went out last night to celebrate Chas’s birthday – it was a very rich meal and we are both feeling rather frail and fat, must be old age or alternatively we are not used to guzzling hollandaise sauce. Hopefully we will liven up soon as the vet is coming to do a load of veterinary health certificates for some animals we sold at the weekend and someone is bringing in some fleece for UK Alpaca which means we might be required to have an intelligent conversation.
I am trying to work on the spreadsheet setting out the breedings for this year but my eyes and brain can’t cope with Excel spreadsheets at the moment – try harder Rachel.
