We have temporarily fenced off our two oak trees laden with acorns. It doesn’t look very smart as we are using that orange stuff they have on building sites but who cares if it does the trick. A client of ours has suddenly lost a young female alpaca with severe ulceration of the throat and gullet. The vet who did the post mortem thinks it may be the result of acorn or oak leaves but hasn’t confirmed that yet. Apparently even though acorns are very bitter, some animals get a taste for them.
Bad news about the new serotypes of bluetongue that have emerged in France. The 50 kilometre surveillance zone outside border is just 30 kilometres from where one of our stud males is standing so we are praying the midges stay put in Finistere so that we can bring him home next week. It is very cold and windy here today, have to get the unflattering hat out or my ears will fall off.
