Minstrel gave birth this morning to a white male cria. It was a classic birth. She moved away from the herd, a few minutes later the head and legs were out, and by nine oclock the youngster was on the ground. I went to spray the navel and realised that extra clothing was necessary as Minstrel is a seriously protective mother. I was in grave danger of turning green. I waited for Chas to get back so that one of us could hold Minstrel whilst the other one did the business. We were quite surprised to get a solid colour cria as Minstrel is black and white and was bought as an embryo transfer recipient which she was two years ago. This was a natural mating in 2006 but in late July Minstrel will carry someone else’s embryo when we do ET again.

Fabulous weather again today for our Discover Alpacas event that seemed to go pretty well. Tired now, looking forward to the Sunday Paper.
