I am convinced I saw an armadillo on the grassy verge one one of the highways around Cleveland, Ohio. That leathery, armoured shell is hard to miss and I couldn’t think what else it could be. Unfortunately it wasn’t possible to screech to a halt and have a look.

I arrived home with a cold, I started sneezing about an hour before we got to Bristol and have been floating around in a cloud of Vick ever since and buoyed up with copious amounts of Lemsip. I had to cancel my joyous visit to the hygenist – I was so looking forward to it – as I didn’t want to spread my germs all round Cullompton.

Two cria were born while we were away, both at teatime, a black girl and a really big blocky dark fawn boy. He is a full brother to two members of the show team and looks promising as he has loads of bright curly fleece at two days old. I was having a much needed soak in the bath when we got home asI did feel fairly repulsive after a night on a plane.  I saw another cria emerging, this time a medium fawn girl, from one of my original Australian girls Casamara. A white Jaquinto daughter came yesterday so who will it be today? We found a plug in the yard after the heavies had been in to feed. Disgustingly Alice, the dog, was in there like a shot, eating it up.

My araucana eggs have hatched and I have six sweet little grey things under the heat lamp and two black ones – Chas calls them the bruisers as they always hatch early and are very strong.

  1. Take Zinc for a week before you fly to avoid the worst of the sore throats.
