We had our ‘inquest’ meeting for the Futurityat the beginning of the week and proved that we are all serial masochists as we resolved to stage it again at Stoneleigh – but a couple of weeks later, this weekend coming next year. I collected half a pig from Mary Jo and managed to give away a large number of eggs to her and Nick Harrington Smith.
The cat has been hunting and has brought back the first two baby rabbits of the season. They are clearly delicious as she sits in the office porch crunching up their lttle heads leaving just a bit of fur behind. No more Whiskas for you, madam.
I shot two adult rabbits that are now in the freezer. Chas drives the mule and I’m the killer. Tom has asked me to keep the skins as he watched Hugh FW curing them on the telly and wants to have a go. We have that joy to come when the boys come home at Easter. Christmas muffs for everyone perhaps?
Our first nine births are due in April so it is nearly time to bring those girls up to the birthing paddock so they are close at hand. It is still very cold and we don’t want any hypothermic cria miles away. I shall start my habitual standing on the office chair to look out and make sure all is well.
