It is getting closer and the office is filling up with ‘stuff ‘ to go up to Stoneleigh. My brother William came today bearing apple juice having volunteered to drive to us rather than us driving to him – most kind. We got to see his marvellous labradoodle who is a big black hairy job and very bouncy. He is lovely.

We had to break up our big female group as they have trashed the field they were in and have moved to two new fields that have been rested for two months. This required much heaving of hay mangers and troughs but it is done. One of the weanlings has turned out to be a Houdini and has escaped twice now into the nursery field even though its mother is not there. We are going to have to fence an area of hedge tomorrow to try and stop it getting out again.

I saw the two roe deer close up this afternoon. They were in a fenced off area on the edge of one of the fields. Its very marshy and also a prime blackberry picking area. I turned off the engine of the mule and just rolled towards them. I probably got within twenty yards and could see their little antlers clearly before they gave me the white bottom flash and bounced away.
