I have shot lots of rabbits recently and the cat has notched up another six baby ones. She is refusing all cat food as she waddles about full of bunnies all the time. I just read a wonderful little piece about rabbits being the most carbon neutral, sustainable back yard livestock that you can have. The dilemma pointed up is whether you should name them. They quote a Californian urban farmer Novella Carpenter who says; “The animal doesn’t give a shit if it has a name or not”. I shall remember that when crunching up the crackling on one of Mary Jo’s pigs residing in our freezer at present.

Down at the bottom of the farm bordering the stream the wild daffodils are in full flower. They look fabulous, so bright and cheery. Primroses are coming and even the grass is making a small effort. We are slowly turning from prairie into Devon again.
