The pink camellia that Elaine gave me is covered in flowers, it was leaning drunkenly but I’ve tied it up to the fence and now looks very splendid. The second camellia that has never flowered before has a big red bud breaking open now – hurrah. Meanwhile the egg crisis has worsened. I sent three dozen up with Chas to the Futurity meeting but still had half a bucket of them sitting in the kitchen. I can’t bear to waste them so yesterday evening started on a major pancake making exercise. My pile of pancakes layered in baking parchment for freezing got bigger and I was making cauliflower cheese for dinner at the same time. So…slightly frazzled pensioner at the aga stirring the sauce, whizzing over to the little gas stove to flip a pancake, short pause in between for a slug of sauvignon, all went well. However when I opened the oven door to put the cauliflower cheese in I found some potatoes that had been in the top oven for 24 hours, oh gawd.
