William’s chicks have hatched. We have nine healthy ones and one that is going to die. It is only a 50% hatch rate but this could be because I switched off the wrong plug the other day and the incubator was off all night, very foolish.
Yesterday I was out doing the hay and was pushing a hay manger to another site with the mule when a rabbit appeared twitching in is death throes. It must have been under the hay manger and was run over. Once it had died, very quick, I chucked it in the mule, brought it up to the barn, skinned and gutted it – so very back to earth at Vulscombe Farm. I was going to cook it but Chas was late back so it has gone in to the freezer for another day.
We have had a wonderful party thank you card from Kate and her friends Anna, Ana and Hannah – we have been practising saying the three names very fast. There is a photograph of the four of them in their fairy gear gambolling in one of the alpaca fields. Strangely the alpacas are taking no notice. We loved it and it kept us smiling for ages.
