We have now completed painting the front and one side of the house – the paint is called Cornish Cream, should be Devon Cream but hey ho. It looks considerably smarter until you wander round to the other two sides and realise how much there is still to paint. Luckily Joshua was here at the weekend so we sent him up the ladder to do the high bits. You can’t send Chas up ladders as he freezes. He doesn’t really like step ladders either.
I did Stage One of my Christmas cake and Christmas puddings yesterday. I was evicted from the office as Chas was on my computer doing my VAT. Stage Two this afternoon. I picked a load of apples from the side of the dual carrigeway figuring they would go to waste otherwise. These are now a pulp so decision time – chutney or jelly or both? Meanwhile on farm it is worming and fluke day for the animals – drugs of choice at the moment being Cydectin and Fasinex.
I am heavily into ‘getting ready for winter’. I’ve bought a new waterproof jacket as all my old coats leak, new waterpoof trousers as the old ones are letting the air in with all the rips and new gloves. I’ve ordered heating oil for the house so we will be full with no danger of running out when there is snow on the ground and the Christmas cards have arrived! Rock salt is next on the list as the council would not dream of coming up our roads and although the salt box is full, getting them to re-fill it in the middle of a cold snap is well nigh impossible even if you drive them mad with repeated pleas. In fact last year they did dump some sacks of salt up the lane but unless you were very quick they were hijacked by passing 4×4 drivers never to be seen again.
Elaine –
Thanks for the timely reminder. Better get going on the cake soon or the boys won’t be too happy at Christmas!
