The rain has finally arrived and we are thoroughly defrosted – which is good – no more hauling water -and bad – mud everywhere again. Chas did the classic driving the mule across one of the laneways and ending up in the fence. Lots of swearing as we had to cut away a section of the fence to get the vehicle out and then put up a temporary fence in the dark. The mud was so slippery that I went flat on my back three times, I’m too old for this. We were very tired by then as we had spent the whole day sorting out animals. The four girls who escaped when their cria were weaned went back into the main female field now they have got over the anguish. One of my fawns Thalia went too as her cria, just four and a half months old, was over 30 kilos so weanable. Six heavy pregnants came up to a field nearer the house and we split the weaning field into two – show animals and non show. My next job is to train them but I shan’t be starting that until next week as this week will be entirely devoted to getting the Futurity catalogue finished and off to the printers. Jeff, the designer, has come back from holiday with the worst cold ever, a collapsed ceiling in his office when the pipes burst and a dead, temporarily we hope, computer. Life’s a ball!
