Alice, our dog, did her usual whirling dervish act, before wolfing down her dinner and then being sick on the carpet. I looked at this big heap of steaming horror and as I am very bad indeed at clearing up sick went outside and had a glass of wine. Fortified I returned to clear up the mess to find Alice had eaten it all again. Quite disgusting but on the other hand jolly excellent as no retching from me required.

I can’t decide whether it is old age or the dull, wretched life I lead that I find the weather interesting. On Monday it was raining stair rods. The noise of the rain on the roof of the barn was deafening, I had to go into the loo to answer the phone. I suppose some of you young things have never encountered stair rods, oh well you may have missed out there. Then we had a glorious day of sunshine and the last two days there has been a wierd light, grey threatening skies and high winds – it felt rather end of the world-ish but clearly the world hasn’t ended as I am still sitting at my computer.

Two more female cria have arrived without incident. My vegetable garden has had a bit of a growth spurt. I planted everything very, very late but all the seeds have germinated and I made the first salad from our own lettuce last night.
