I took a long walk all round the farm checking up on the alpacas yesterday when I saw three fox cubs playing down in the bottom field. They were about the size of a cat and just gazed at me as I approached. I got within about 20 feet of them before the first two trotted into the hedge. The third, smaller and darker coloured than the others, stayed around a bit longer before he too vanished. These must be the cubs of the vixen who chased Alice through the fields a few weeks ago.
We went to Exeter this morning buying 50 plus square metres of wall tiles for the new house. The Toyota was considerably down on its suspension and Chas was instructed to BRAKE GENTLY and go very, very slowly down our potholed lane. We have ordered tons of topsoil, sand and turf to start turning the building site into a pleasant terrace and lawned area. It will be the flagstones on the next shopping trip.
We have hiked the show team out of their respective fields and they are eating the lawn for us close to the barn so that if it rains, as no doubt it will, they can be rushed into the barn. They are beautifully dry at the moment and will be competing again at the Devon County Show on Friday.
