I have acquired eight new hens that I hope will not end up as foxy food. We went to a farm at Holcombe Rogus where there are hundreds of them and bought two Bluebelles, two Light Sussex, there were meant to be two Rhode Island Reds but we ended up with one of those and three that are like Black Rocks but not. We got a bit confused when we were shoving them in the boxes. I wanted to go to the fabled Hatherleigh market but we never seem to get round to it.

The hens are in their very large new abode with the remaining two Black Rocks and the cockerel. He doesn’t seem to have recovered from losing most of his hens and is an absolute hysteric. They are all going to stay in for several days. Once I let them out I want to be sure they will go in the house at night and I won’t have to run around after them every evening like a madwoman.

A dark fawn Tulaco Centurion female was born this morning out of a white mother. The cria is a good, even colour, a bit small as she is 10 months and 3 weeks but trying hard to stand at the moment.

Chas has done his annual clean of the aga as the man is coming today to service it and we are a touch embarassed by the build up of ghastliness – fat and filth!

Joshua phoned up from Quito yesterday and requested a fridge full of bacon and sausages as he is desperate for a fry up when he gets back on Friday plus a trip to the pub for their steak pie. He hasn’t mentioned Cadbury’s milk chocolate but I suspect that might be on the list as well.
