We all got soaked yesterday. Andrew was a mud coloured sodden person as he was working on his bridge. Chas and I had to get into our winter waterproofs and my hair had a nice rinsing in best quality Devon rain. It was that sort of driving drizzle interspersed with torrential downpours. There were five newborns out there and their coats were wet through so we decided to bring them for the night so that they could dry out and allow their mothers to sample the new hay. The really sickening thing was that Somerset was bone dry. The Landcruiser had to go in for a service and when we crossed the boundary on the way to Taunton there was no rain, just sunshine – not fair.
Our fawn Centurion is back home after his sojourn at Meon Valley Alpacas www.mvalpacas.co.uk in Hampshire. We have lots of work for him so we wheel him out every day for another two matings. He is not that keen on the third, they are usually very short. One of my very old black girls Electra is in trouble, pooing water and very thin. We are treating her but I am pretty sure it is hopeless and that she is going to die. Electra used to be the herd leader and was big on broadside displays and bouncing around. She surprised us all, as she hasn’t been that well for ages, by giving birth this winter to a female cria, now weaned, as we mated her once and assumed she was not pregnant. Anyway she is staying in the barn and we’ll see what happens.
