I have just applied for my State Pension, it is hard to believe one is so old, although it is distressingly obvious when I look in the mirror. I keep thinking a facelift would be a good idea except that I am frightened about going under the knife. I sit in the hairdresser holding the skin back to extinguish some of the lines contemplating the enormous sum of money it would cost. Do they think I am cracked? probably.

Chas has just palpated one of my top girls who is 12 months and 2 weeks. There IS someone in there…I wish it would come out SOON. We have checked our breeding records and she only sat once so we know we are right on the dates. We have some more bluetongue jabs to do as there are now enough crias and mums to use up a bottle of 20, one of today’s little tasks. We’re off on a flying visit to Brittany tomorrow with 12 animals in the trailer. It is the overnight ferry on Thursday and the Friday afternoon one back which should just give us time to have breakfast with Robin and Linda and get some booze as we really are down to the last few bottles. I have recovered from Monday’s complete lack of the will to work after getting very tired at the weekend, it must be old age. I also felt a lot more cheerful after a visit to the DAFNE nurse at the Diabetes Centre in Exeter. The nurses are wonderful, very nice and understanding, none of that ‘I am a god, you are useless’ crap that you get from the consultants. So we went through my diary of blood sugar testing (at least three times a day) looking for patterns where things go wrong and agreed to meet again in a month. The consultant made me angry and depressed whilst the nurse made me cheerful and positive. Perhaps their salary levels should be reversed.

  1. 12 months and 2 weeks – eek! I’m paranoid of anyone that gets over 12 months following one that went 370 days last year and had an enormous cria that didn’t survive. My furthest girls is 358 days and she’s huge but doesn’t want to part with it.

  2. Five grand just for the neck & upper jaw, I have decided it is cheaper to wear polo necks and scarfs and loads of heavy jewells around the offending creases!…and I don’t get my bus pass for another 3yrs, so well done Rachel, just think what an amazing character you are with so much fun in your life you’re bound to get laughter lines!

  3. P.S Also one of our girls aborted on Wed.(with only a month to go), and a day after bluetongue injection, have you found any connection with the vacine and abortions?

  4. C0ngratulations on joining one of the fastest growing clubs in the world!

  5. My longest gestation was an older girl who went 384 days and had a very healthy (though slightly overcooked!) little boy in an easy birth; she had always been on time or thereabouts before, so no idea what kept her holding on for that long! I guess as long as the little one can be seen still spinning around in there things should go to plan!

    See you at the weekend

  6. We had 377-day cria this morning from one mating only, April 2008. Maiden mum had a normal delivery in every way and babe was not overcooked and weighed 7kgs, (below our average birth weight). Pacas……they like to keep us on our toes!
