Just one of the very late pregnant females did the decent thing yesterday and had a female cria at exactly 12 months gestation. It was a typical Jaquinto baby that didn’t bother with any of that cush stuff but got up straightaway and started tramping round the field. It was just drying off nicely when we had a tremendous shower, great for the grass but not so good for newborns or my washing.

My battle with the rats preying on my eggs continues. Had to buy yet another giant flagon of rat poison which is still disappearing from the drain pipes I’ve put behind the chicken house. How many of them can be there? We have found loads of corpses.

We’ve just ordered thousands and thousands of pounds worth of fencing for the new 14 acre field we’ve bought. Chas has bought an enormous quick fencing gizmo that goes on the tractor and we are going to save money by doing it ourselves. He claims it won’t be that difficult or take that long even though there are lots of overhanging branches to clear not to mention areas of well grown blackthorn in the field, dreadful stuff to deal with. I wish I could wield a chain saw but as I’ve only got one hand have been banned from having a go and actually if you had ever seen me swinging a sledehammer wildly you would understand why.
