Orphan Alpaca

My orphan alpaca, an ET baby with an illustrious sire and dam, has given me cause to worry. He started to lose weight, a kilo a week, but has just put on two kilos in 10 days. I am very pleased. He was running with the weanlings but we decided to move him into the birth field where there are a couple of others who need to put weight on plus two mums and cria. We gave him a two day blast of Vetrumex, a probiotic that smells just like a health food shop, i.e. full of yeast, and that seems to have improved his appetite. He is a gorgeous little tghing and I want to show him at the Futurity.

Everybody enjoyed Aida which was a sea of colour with the emphasis on gold. All the priests had fetching gold skirts. I thought it unfortunate that their chests were bare, singers are not renowned for their toned pecs. The elephant, a blue one, was great as was the shower of gold that rained down on our victorious hero. Unfortunately one of my ears decided to get infected so I had a lot of echo on one side. I had to present the good ear to the stage which seemed to work. The performance was signed which Thomas was very pleased about as she was excellent, very musical and lovely to watch. At the end the principals pulled her on to the stage for a curtain call and she bounded on like a very happy Tigger.

We were reasonably impressed with the singing but they weren’t very big singers and kept getting drowned by the orchestra. I thought the second half about a million times better as the music gets darker and more interesting.

Afterwards we met up with Nigel, Chas’s partner in the audio business, and his wife Trish and went to Joe Allen for supper. I haven’t been there for years but it was just the same, loads of meat, very relaxed atmosphere and we didn’t leave until one in the morning.
