Joshua and I had a very successful morning getting stuff for his trip to the Amazonian rain forest in Peru. Trip to nurse, tick; prescription for months of malaria pills, tick; ordered dollars and soles; found eco friendly shampoo and shower stuff and so on. This trip is for his dissertation/thesis whatever you call it and it is about caymans so he plans to spend happy night time hours in a dugout canoe catching them. He flies to Lima on July 15, then an internal flight where he picks up a boat which quite a long time later gets to the research station. You are not allowed to take any nasty chemicals in so no Deet or normal soap just the eco-friendly stuff that costs twice as much.

Yesterday we went to the marvellous TK Max in Exeter to get shorts and shirts whilst I indulged myself in kitchen scissors – push the boat out Rachel – and chicken shears as my last two pairs are broken. This was due to over enthusiasm on the part of Andrew – witness various bits of agricultural machinery now being welded back together as the idea of driving slowly and carefully is an alien concept to him. We should dock his wages to force him to understand the implications but Chas would never allow that! Wimp.

The very good news is that Joshua got excellent results in his 2nd year exams and is less than one percent off a first. He concluded that in the exams he worked very hard for he got 10% higher marks than the ones he didn’t. I believe there is a lesson here!
