The thaw has arrived and we have rain. You have to watch out under the eaves as big lumps of wet stuff keep sliding off aiming for a human. There is still loads of snow in the fields with small patches of green emerging. I think it will take another day or two before it all goes. It is a bit disgusting and the alpacas have turned from fluffy gorgeous things into damp, drippy things.
I left a message for Bernard with a beard yesterday morning mentioning that we would need some more hay soon. Blow me, at five oclock yesterday he turned up with most of his family and another 250 bales. That is fantastic service for you. The speed is partly because he is about to start three weeks of lambing and disappears into his shed for the duration. Bernard normally looks unspeakably scruffy but does scrub up quite well and wears very sharp shoes. His tractors are gigantic and new – I think he is one of those, a rich man who ties up his coat with baler twine.
