I was watching them cut up a camel on television last night when I heard the cat yowling – ignored her as the camel was very interesting and of course has lots of similarities in its anatomy with alpacas. Eventually went to see what the yowling was about and found a large dead rat in the porch. Thank you cat.

We have spent several days on the road. On Friday we went to Glyndebourne for our wedding present trip to the opera – Briiten’s Turn of the Screw. It was a journey from hell getting there and I feared we might not make it but arrived with 20 minutes to go before curtain up. Chas had to change in the car, I had already changed in the car during one of the many traffic jams we encountered. My marvellous shawl/scarf, made by Linda Hitchcock from a Jaquinto son’s fleece, had its first outing as it was a bit chilly – not with an alpaca shawl. The opera was great, champagne not bad, journey home cross country OK. On Sunday afternon we set off for Cumbria and Jim Dent’s auction in Carlisle, blissfully easy trip, pleasant dinner in the pub next door to the Premier Inn at Preston, quite relaxing really. There were loads of alpaca breeders at the auction who we hadn’t seen for ages so an excellent gossip was had, even Pat Bentley, one of the first people to breed alpacas in the UK, was there. I never go to auctions unless I intend to buy something so I did and we are breeding them today to our males.

It is one of those weeks with a Camelidynamics course on Friday and Saturday, absolutely no peace for the wicked, and I have to start thinking about the food, oh dear.
