Wow torrential rain all day yesterday with an evil wind. I brought the cria and their mums into the barn for the day and they had to stay put moaning a lot and hoovering up the haylage until four oclock when it started to peter out. And yes they are nearly all boys. What is going on? Last spring we had mostly girls and then a boy flood in the autumn. This year its boys in the spring, please god may it be girls in the autumn.

On Saturday I had a catch up day, cleaned out the chickens, fed all the alpacas, cleaned the water troughs, picked strawberries, shot a couple of rabbits and then had a massive bonfire. Managed to prevent Chas getting his eyebrows and noble hairline singed again. I then started breaking up kindling. Andrew has learnt the hard way – famous Hebditch dirty look – not to throw away useful small branches as my kndling store was getting low. There is a huge pile of big branches for logs in the yard and one of them is positioned just right so that when you wack a piece of dry kindling against it, it breaks, very satisfying and useful too.
