I cooked scallops last night and in the process poisened Chas – or rather the fish man did as I bought the scallops already out of their shells. He was very sick, oh dear, the guilt. I was fine, not sure about Joshua as I haven’t seen him this morning. Chas was very masculine about it all and just quietly threw up a couple of times with no recriminations. Good thing it wasn’t me as I would have made a terrible fuss.
By the way it is STILL raining. The hedges are growing out into the road, we will be engulfed in green stuff soon and the slugs in my garden are multiplying. I shall show them no mercy.
We have to go to Barnstaple today to look at a car, a replacement for the Landcruiser that is six years old and has done 130 thousand miles. As no doubt you know the 4x4s are less popular with the chattering classes but still essential for people like us, who have to tow big trailers with 15 alpacas on board. They are supposed to be cheaper now. Not that much cheaper, you could buy a house in Accrington for the same money. Anyway there is a special offer weekend at the Toyota garage and they have a nearly new Invincible, ridiculous name, for sale. As far as I can see the most marvellous thing about it is that it has a camera at the back that displays on a screen what you are about to back in to. I could see the hedge coming. That would be good as I took the back bumper off when backing in early morning sunshine to let a school bus through. The Devon bank was unscathed but I was mortified particularly as I had to tie the bumper back on with string and crawl to Chas.
