The amazing dry weather meant that we had to get to grips with choosing the show team for the Futurity. Yesterday we had a go at the juniors, oh god, as the afternoon wore on we started to lose the will to live and ended up with five junior white females and five junior fawn females. Two of those turned out to be beige when we got out the new ARI colour card – hurrah. The difficulty is that some of the older juniors, who will tip over into intermediate in April, were cria shorn so you are comparing first and second fleeces which makes life a lot more difficult. We’ve been through the adult and intermediate males today and not done too badly and on Wednesday it is the adult and intermediate females. We haven’t started on the fleece show yet and that is bound to be truly agonising not to mention skirting the bloody things as well.

Then I’ll have to start halter training, lucky old me. Two of the intermediate boys Chas has selected were not shown as juniors and they are big now, let’s hope they love the halter and don’t get too arsey or I’ll be flying down the track. I have washed all the halters, terrible clanking noise from the washing machine as the metal bits hit the drum, but they do look marvellously new and shiny.
