I am smiling again as I have a mouthful of teeth – no more soup. I decided in the end to go with Chas to deliver the alpacas even though I had to keep my mouth shut – not easy for a chatterer like me. We were on the top of Dartmoor with fantastic views having tea in a splendid Duchy of Cornwall mansion. The alpacas have an enormous field that they share with a small flock of sheep and Percy, the prize ram. The alpacas ran away from him as Percy clearly has plenty of testosterone and a bit of attitude. Alice, our Havanese terrier, came along too but she and the resident dog do not like each other and they had a fairly shortlived fight and she was sent to the car for the rest of the visit.

We have been halter training this morning. About half of the Futurity show team are not bad and the others are dreadfull. Still it is only the second time we have asked them to walk, you just have to be very, very patient and keep calm when you really want to give them a good lecture. The animals are almost dry as it hasn’t rained for a whole day and a night. I was going to train some non Futurity ones as well for the SWAG Spring Show but came to the view that time was pressing and we can do them in March.

I went to see the diabetes nurse today for a check up. They do blood pressure, below 130 so that’s OK, stick needles in your feet to see if you can feel them – ouch, I can and look at your cholesterol, 4.7, that’s OK and blood sugar levels, not so good at 8.7. More work or different insulin required so I have to go back and see Jane, the diabetes nurse who knows everything. I am religious about testing my blood sugar three times a day and avoiding sugar but still go up and down like a yoyo, it really is very hard. Be very thankful for your pancreas!
