We had a great sloe gin weekend with Alex, Tom and Matt, making it that is rather than drinking it. Finding enough sloes wasn’t particularly easy as the crop is a bit sparse this year but searching enough hedges meant that we did have enough for a good number of bottles in the end. It was also Tom and Matt’s thirteenth anniversary where we gorged on an extraordinarily large (and expensive) joint of sirloin. Roast beef is a rarity in this household as there are only two of us, lots of people and a big joint are called for.
After that we went to the Knitting & Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace, hard work but we took more money than last year so that was good. I foolishly wore heels the first day so my feet were killing me, trying to look smart in a skirt etc was an error. Reverted to type on the next three days with jeans and flat shoes. Had a great dinner at Tom and Matt’s local gastropub the Bull and Last where we caught up with Colin and Linda Bell who we haven’t seen for yonks – both old Granada TV and BBC colleagues. I also got to eat my annual and wonderful pizza at Pizza East down the road, I really miss good pizza in darkest Devon.
Back on the farm it is wet, wet, wet. We’ve started the autumnal husbandry chores. This week it is a flukicide for the whole herd and toenail trimming. Next week will be worming closely followed by weaning and scanning. Are they all pregnant? The magic scanner will reveal all shortly.
