Our fawn male CME Tulaco Centurion started the year in fine style when he was awarded Show Champion Huacaya at the British Alpaca Society Spring Show at the Royal Bath & West on Saturday. Chas was so delighted that he leapt in to the air when the judge David Barnett awarded the sash. Very unlike the normally very calm Chas, good heavens! the assembled populace must have murmured. Centurion has come through the winter very well and he still has the most lovely bright dark fawn fleece. His behaviour has improved in the show ring too. Last year he was very nervy and difficult but practice makes perfect. We own part of Alpaca Stud Jaquinto and he won White Male Champion which was very pleasing and a young fawn male Dante was first in the intermediate male fawn class. So all in all a really good day. Middle son Alex sent a bottle of champagne for Mother’s Day so we drank it, quite quickly really, to celebrate Centurion and Mother’s Day. Just the right present…youngest son Joshua gave me a big bunch of red and white tulips that looked very splendid on the dining room table.
Today we have been weaning cria and doing a few matings with Centurion and Jaquinto. We want to take some photographs of them with their sashes on but we keep getting snowstorms coming over and it is very windy. I am wearing four layers – not enough I fear – it must be the wind chill.
