Terrific news for alpaca owners. There were no new laboratory confirmed bTB cases in the whole of 2024. In that year 343 camelid herds were subject to testing for a variety of reasons including voluntary sales and purchases and contiguous testing.
There has been a downward trend in camelids since 2019, almost certainly due to the enhanced biosecurity employed by alpaca breeders. Like us, most breeders use the voluntary Enferplex test when buying or selling alpacas giving the vendor and the new owner peace of mind.
