The Christmas cake and the puddings were a success but they do dreadful things to my blood sugar particularly when mixed with cocktails that have a lump of sugar in them. And I forgot to take insulin one evening, deary me. Christmas has been a lot of fun with all the food and champagne, films brought down to straw sucking Devon for our amusement and some frightful games that involve delving into the dark depths of one’s memory. We have eaten the turkey, its carcass has been stripped bare after an excellent curry made by Tom and Matt and my marvellous soup. It gets to be very dull if it hangs around too long.

Chas and I got fairly exhausted feeding all the animals while Andrew was away. The water froze for ages, the yard was a skating rink so all the animals had to be fed in the field and they guzzled bales and bales of hay. We will have to get a few tons of rock salt delivered if this is going to happen next year as Devon County Council didn’t bring any and all the salt boxes out there are empty. Our lane was impassable and getting the boys in on Christmas Eve proved a bit tricky. They all had to walk down from Robin’s Post and then the four of them managed to get Matt’s mini down the next morning as it was loaded with presents.

Kyle, Chas’s son, flew off to Korea on Sunday to see his friend Johnny for two weeks. It sounded like an absolutely horrendous journey. First a flight from Bristol to Amsterdam, a four hour wait there then the plane to Korea, then an eight hour wait for Johnny as he was flying back from a holiday in Thailand and then a four hour bus trip to where Johnny lives. Phew, Kyle is young so he will be OK.

Andrew has given us the most lovely picture of our dog Alice – apparently he had to take 60 shots to get her sitting exactly as he wanted. Chas has put it up in the office under the clock and it looks great. And amazingly an enormous hamper arrived from Fortnum and Mason which includes a musical biscuit tin, how weird is that. The hamper is very posh and was sent to us by Cas-Cad-Nac farm in the USA, very thrilling indeed.
