We are frozen, it is disgustingly damp out there, covered in fog. One of the heaters in the office has conked out and we are trying to work wearing coats, hats, scarves, outer trousers, alpaca socks etc. I can’t work when I’m cold so I may have to decamp to the house and perch in front of the woodburner. I have got a ham hock boiling away so that I can make a nourishing soup later, marvellous.

The nursery field have been in the garden again today as the lawn needs mowing and it is far too wet so they have been given the job. They are doing very well and have pruned the blackberries very nicely too.
Christmas has risen to the top of my tiny brain so last night I sat in front of the telly cleaning the copper kettles and a big copper preserving pan. I realised that the huge damask tablecloth we use has still not been dealt with since last Christmas as it has a lot of candle wax on it. I’ll have to consult Mrs Beeton pronto. It is a bit worrying how fast this year is disappearing.
