Clearly I’m never going to win this one but I spent the whole weekend driving round with the sprayer bringing death to docks (I particularly hate docks), thistles and nettles. Our neighbour had an enormous crop of thistles and most of the seeds seem to have landed on our sloping fields which are pretty steep. I cross all my fingers and toes when driving down those. In between the spraying I managed to shoot three young rabbits for my casserole tonight – hurrah – free food.
We have had some torrential rain. There was a river running past the back door on Friday night and every time I put my washing out it chucks it down, very well rinsed now. The grass groweth, Chas had to top three fields at the weekend. And today the second cria of the season arrived three weeks after the first. The girls in the birthing paddock are hanging on, most are almost 12 months now.
